Teeing Off

Hi! I read and absolutely loved your book...it was so informative and enjoyable to read. I do have one question. I never know when to tee off when following another group of players. How far away does the group ahead of you need to be? I feel like I'm always waiting too long and that the group behind me is getting annoyed at me for waiting so long?
Please help me!
