Battle Royale? Yeah, I saw it in the theater. It was pretty good, but I wouldn't say great. It wasn't so much a commentary on the competitive nature of education, as on the violence that is becoming more prevalent in schools these days. The class that participated in the Battle Royale was chosen for their lack of discipline and bad behavior. It raised quite a stir when it first came out, but it's pretty much old news by now.
It was pretty bloody, but apparently the book, and the comic book versions were much worse. Also although it was supposedly rated R-15 (no-one under 15 admitted) most of my students went to see it, and/or read the book. In fact one of the kids brought it to school where it was confiscated.
