http://www.highpeaksguideservice.comTimes are tough this time of year in the High Peaks of the adirondacks with the bitter cold and snow. There is some good news in all this though.Last season saw water levels very low as well as water temps very high from the end of June to the close of the season. It made for some tough fishing and some waterways you could not fish at all for lack of water. With the snow pack in good shape this year the waterways should be doing well come spring. The effects of last years conditions on the fish we will see in the spring, my guess is the Brook Trout would be effected the most as they require the cooler water. They were congregating at the spring holes as well as the undercut banks, only problem with that is they were easy pickings for the otters, mink ect. once located. My guess would be the Browns and Rainbows did a little better as they can withstand higher water temps.
Even in the dog days of late winter and early spring you can still work on some things to improve your fishing for the upcoming season, especially those of us who enjoy flyfishing.Take a frisbee and throw it out in the driveway, tie a piece if string to you leader and cast to the frisbee.Move it around, cast at different angle and distances and you will be well prepared when you hit the water.
