Hi Smitty,
Keuka's a beautiful lake that has great fishing. There is a bait shop in
Penn Yan on 54a heading out of town.I think I saw they had english rigs there and thats the way to go with a sawbelly for early lakers, The oldtimers would get in a row boat and drop a line say 50 yards from shore and set the rod in a holder and catch browns as well as lakers. If you have a boat I'd fish the end of the the bluff and put in at the state park in Branchport. The Penn Yan branch
is mostly shallow not so good for the trout. This time of year trolling can be
really productive. Rapalas work well in the smaller non jointed sizes.I've caught landlock salmon this time of year on the silver and black and fire tiger colors. Dipsy divers work well for me as I have a smaller boat and no downriggers. I use 9' rods with line counter reels rigged with 30 lb test. I run 15lb line from the diver to dodger ( about 5')then 8lb leader to a spoon or fly. Lots of guys run side planers but I've found with a diver you can set the keel wieght and get away from the boat under water. You don't need to fish too deep Ive caught fish 20ft deep over 40 ft of water. There are drop offs and deep holes you can fish. There's one right south west of the state park boat launch. Also the end of the bluff has some sharp drop offs and real deep water. Remember to bring some rain gear and goodluck fishing lake Keuka.
I'll be trolling Conesus at night for the best eating game fish there is 4 - 6lb walleye. see ya on the water
