The water level on many of the lakes in central Florida is getting very low. Some of the boat ramps are being upgraded and others are not usable. The spawn is pretty much over and the bass are becoming more active on artificial baits.
My friend put this into a new way that I look at the bass activity. He told me that some day I would be living here when the fishing is really good. He went on to explain the the fish are more active and bite better during the summer.
During the winter months, November through March, the activity level slows and the best bite is on wild shiners. Even though the fronts bother the bass, they still must eat, and the natural wild shiner will out fish artificial baits. If you book a guide trip during these months, either bite the bullet to purchase shiners or split the fishing time with both shiners and artificial baits.
We are heading North on the 21st and will be in Honeoye by the 24th. A big change from warm to cold but the fishing in New York is hard to beat. Have a good time, but, be careful. Wear your life vest and practice safe boating during this cold water period.
CU on the water.
