Great bass fishing will be available for both smallmouth and largemouth bass on opening day at Black Lake. Water temperature is rising into the low 70's during the day. Both species appear to be finishing up the spawn. I have found largemouth and smallmouth sharing the same locations and have been able to catch them on back to back casts. Their location although can be very specific.
As a guide, I prefer to have the fish grouped in predictable locations versus being spread out on spawning flats. The bite may be a little more difficult now then it would be preseason, but at least the fish are where they should be.
The water is clearer now than it used to be, so the best artificials tend to be those more effective in clear water, such as topwaters, jerkbaits, and senkos. Live shiners or crayfish will work best on off days. The smallmouth population is getting more impressive, which is a treat for a lake that was always notedGuidedBassTrips for its largemouth. Hopefully the size will increase over time with the special 15" limit. Of course the two pounders are a lot of fun too.
Don't pass up on Black Lake when considering your next bass fishing trip. It is a special lake that now has the perfect mixture of largemouth and smallmouth bass. Feel free to contact my cell at 407-744-1350, my cottage at 315-324-5033, or visit me at www.GuidedBassTrips.com.
Good fishing,
