The smallmouth bite on Skaneateles has been good. With last week's south winds, much of the lake was tough to hold on, but drifting with a dropshot rig on breaklines in 18-25ft of hard bottom was effective. In the early morning and evenings the smallies were getting on top of the flats and humps and willing to eat a Pop-R. They seemed to swirl and miss walking baits like a spook, but would eat the popper. A bit of action was had on the tube jig (watermelon seed), but the dropshot did most of the damage.
