Chris,I too own a stock fj40 mine is a 79.Anyway,your statement about raw oil out the tailpipe cannot be a good thing. Nor do I think you will repair it with tinkering.Hopefully you are ready to get your hands dirty.Sounds like your motor needs rebuilding(top and bottom ends).Just remember though, a chevy motor does not a TOYOTA make.All original will always sustain its most value and worth.Don't get me wrong,I love chevrolet's but what good is a 1957 belair with a ford motor?I've spent alot of time and money getting mine to purr,and what Ive learned is repair or replace with original eqipment gets the best results.I run stock carb even(no junk weber) under my hood.If you like putting around with minimal problems that Toy will never let you down once it is restored.The biggest problem they have is vacuunm leaks at intake manifold.But beware, headers and a weber carb are not your answer.I wish you lots of luck,and I hope my insight helped a little.Lesley
