If this will be a daily driver I would probably keep the 3 speed and go to 3.73:1 diff. gears and maybe some taller tires as this will be a lot less $$$ then swapping trannys. Check out http://www.tlca.org/trails/techxchg/rpmtbls/index.html for a listing of RPM tables with different gears, tires, transmissions and transfer cases. If you want to keep the 4.11:1 gears for off-roading the top trannys that come to mind are Toyota's H55F 5 speed and the NV4500 with an Advanced Adapter's conversion. My choice would be the H55F since it is a Toyota part and has proven to be a tough unit in every other part of world. Cool Cruiser of Texas (www.coolcruisers.com) was working on a parts list for the H55F tranny conversion but I don't know if they have it on the web site. Also with the H55F I think you need to swap out the transfer case and then the Tcase side of the drive shafts also. Several other TLC shops are selling H55F trannys also (Man-A-Fre, Spector, TLC 4x4 to name a few). I have not done much research into the NV4500 swap yet but I will be soon since it will most likely be the tranny going into my daughters V8 FJ40. I'm leaning towards it because it will bolt up the Chevy bellhousing. Good Luck and Welcome to the Land Cruiser Community,

The first question should probably be what you plan to do with the Cruiser, ie. daily driver with light off-road use, weekend driver with moderate off-road use or a trail rig that only sees the pavement en route to the trail head. I'm no expert and I know you will get a lot of good info and opinions in response.
