Thx lesley for the response, I do know what you mean about the value and such, and its certainly a lot easier to fix whats there than reengineer (although I do enjoy a good challenge)lol. BUT as it is, I have GOOD news about my new toy....
When I first called the guy about it, his ad said $3600, without even asking, the first thing he said was it put oil out the tailpipe so he had dropped it to $1500, I went and saw it but never saw it run and just from the body condition knew it was a steal so I took it. This weekend I just picked it up last night, limped it on the trailer with one cylinder and the starter in 4 low, lol. It was dark by time I got it loaded so it sat all night once I got back, this morning I went out to tinker on it and see what I could find, oil was indeed spraying heavily from the exhaust, and was also pouring out the side of the block from somewhere around the manifolds, so I thought "head gasket". My first instinct then was to see if water had gotten into the oil pan. (Now bear in mind the guy told me he had thoroughly checked it out and had no idea what was wrong). When I removed the dipstick I found the oil level to be a good 8" above the full marker, just enough to put the oil level at the piston skirts.
Right then I knew why it didnt run, I drained out the extra 2-3 gallons of oil, replaced the now very oil fouled spark plugs, and not even 1/4 turn of the starter and she fired right up like a top on all 6! Even drove it around the block tonight, lol (smoking like a mad pig since the pipe is full of oil now). Needless to say I am one very happy camper.
