I recently received a referral for a student who is taking "breaths" every 5-7 words as she reads orally. She actually has to stop, breathe, find her place again and restart. As a result, her reading fluency scores are low. The reading specialist has asked me if I know any techniques to teach this child to read longer without stopping to take the breath. Any suggestions?
