I have a student who has been on my caseload for one year. He had his frenulum clipped at age 2, but when he was evaluated at age 4, he was still lateralizeing sh, ch, and dg. After 6 months without improvement (lingual strengthening exercises, increasing awareness of articulators- which he got; he's a very smart little guy) I recommended his parents take him back to the surgeon to be looked at. He recommended and carried out another frenectomy. It's been another 6 months, and there's only slight improvemet of the sounds, and minimal improvement of lingual ROM. He still has a divot when he protrudes his tongue. Also, he can move his tongue to the left, but not the right- could this indicate hypoglossal nerve damage? Is there something I could be overlooking? Any advice or links to resources would be appreciated.
