Anyone have any suggestions/ideas on how to help a preschooler with Down Syndrome reduce drooling? She's very bright, has great articulation, oral-motor, language, social skills, etc. But we can't seem to figure out the drooling. Parents think it may be due to sucking her fingers when she's "nervous/anxious". I don't see much sucking at school, but she does constantly "wipe" her hand(s) on her tongue. We've tried using hand sanitizer every time she puts her hand in her mouth (talking about germs, etc.) but this doesn't seem to phase her (she licks the sanitizer off her hand). I've tried talking to her about it, using a social story about keeping hands out of her mouth, etc.
