I do not believe in oral motor therapy for improving articulation. My opinion is based on current efficacy research and also on experience. I've heard that many academic institutions have actually stopped teaching curriculum on oral motor therapy because of lack of research to prove efficacy. I currently work in a school and in health care (on-call), and I do use oral motor therapy with patients in an acute hospital setting secondary to stroke and other brain injuries to treat dysarthria, dyphagia, and facial weakness. I think you should stick with your intuition and keep doing what works for you. Also, you can find research to support your rationale in case parents/colleagues ever have questions.
