As a former speech student, with a lisp, that is how I was taught and how I teach others. As far as /t/, 'sh' and 'ch', you don't really need teeth to make those sounds. Your tongue needs to be at the alveolar ridge for /t/. For 'sh', you make the constriction at the palate and you need the tongue and alveolar ridge for 'ch'(but you do a /t/ sound first since 'ch' is really /t/ + 'sh'). Where I live, many kids do not have their top 4 teeth due to bottle decay. It's very common and we still have great success in therapy.
