I just started working in a clinic with school age kids as well as a few early intervention kids. I may be seeing a 2 year old child who currently has a trach and is on a ventilator. He is being weaned from the vent and when he is successful will be given a passy-muir valve. He already receives feeding therapy at home so I would be working on language. Any suggestions on how to work with a child on a trach?? I have never done it and have no idea!! Do I just stimulate language like any other child? Or do I have to teach use of the passy-muir?? Any help would be great! Thanks
