I've worked with a child like this before and it was pretty straight forward once the Passy-Muir Valve was in place. This valve will prevent the exhaled air stream from going out the trach opening and the air will therefore come through the oral cavity - you can then work on speech production just like you would with any other child starting with wherever they are in terms of speech development. The child will not have to be taught how to use the valve - the valve will do the job it's designed for. As far as language goes, again, you would work on it just like you would with any other child with similar language delays. Hope that helps.
