nasality and nasal emission

I have a six year old with mild velopharyngeal insufficiency resulting in nasal emission and hypernasality. The ENT chose not to scope because of the child's age and mild symptoms. Any ideas for remediation? I,m afraid the etiology may be neurological, which I am aware will limit success.
