
Posted by Anne I have a fourth grade student, who is a gifted student. He speaks rapidly and a very soft voice, which complicates his R problem! Parents are frustrated, and it is noticeable at school too. Can talk slowly, but when animated, off he goes... loud outside, but not in car or in home... doesnt seem to do any real self monitoring. Is this negative attention from parents his reward? Used cotton balls to show "adults'" hearing, a stopwatch for slow "race"...., no carryover effect..help! showed him with a stopwatch that it is "faster" to say things once slowly, than to have to repeat often... Mom goes to extent to turn off heat and radio in car when he wants to talk from back seat position. Will check with music teacher for metronome... any other ideas? Speaker's responsibility to do the clear communication has been explained to him... thanks! :)
