Hi. I once assessed a child with exactly that same behaviour, although she was referred for artic issues (very mild delay.) It seemed to be a compulsive behaviour and like eibba who replied to your message, I didn't target it in therapy, and in fact, I didn't treat the artic delay, either, choosing to let it resolve through maturation. This was a case I saw many years ago (she was about 6) and I chose not to treat because I felt her self-echolalic compulsion might worsen with an artic target. I asked the parent to monitor her and to call after 3 months if no gains were made artic-wise and echolalia-wise. I never heard back so I have no way of knowing how she turned out.
