I have a five and one half year old who seems to have a tongue thrust when swallowing (lip puckering with water) , although her dentition is fine (for now, she can achieve lip closure and a normal resting position and she has good production of sh, ch and j. She demonstrates lisping on /s/ and /z/ and inconsistent protrusion on alveolars. She can get a good placement for /s./ She's very resistant to practicing at home. I have worked with her and would like to do more tongue thrust activities but don't how to motivate her to do them at home I also think the probability of rememdiating a tongue thrust in a child under 7 or 8 is negligible, because she can't self monitor. I'm stymied about how to manage her. Any ideas would be appreciated.
