I know, this is a very dark subject. I am only 38 and just got a colostomy. Although they don't know the condition of the rest of my colon yet...(anouther blockage was found in scope) I don't have cancer. I am still passing stools so I should be ok. Just wondering, what is the life expectancy of a colostomate? Is there a study, or record of such on ostomates? I know we may be more prone to infection, injury...ect...but I wonder how long I can live with part of my gut sticking out of my body? I don't really totally trust doctors answers on this...I like that they try to be up-beat and positive but I just want the truth as to what I can expect....20 yrs....a long full life? Anyone in here have one for more than 20 yrs? Thanks.
