The first night of the Floyd Reynolds Memorial is in the record books. And we have a new winner to add to the list for night one...and he is John Carney, Jr. of El Paso, Texas. The Rocky Mountain Region of the ASCS fielded 38 cars tonight with the 39th car broke down 40 miles from the track. Actually the car hauler broke down. Tremendous car count from the ASCS was greatly appreciated by the huge crowd that turned out for a cool night of racing. Two B mains were run to finish off the 24 car starting lineup for the 30 lap feature. Kaylene Verville of Avondale, Az. won the first B and Colt Treharn of Albq. took the 2nd B main. Other drivers transferring to the main by way of the B mains were Randi Miller of Rapid City, S.D., Derrick Ortega of Albq., Josh Hodges of Albq. and Paul Whitehead of Albq. In the 30 lap feature, John Carney,jr. took control early and was really never challenged in the Mountain Dew Special. Carney was extremely happy with his first victory at the "Floyd". Following him for 2nd was Brent Kronfuss of Bozeman, Montana, Randi Miller of Rapid City, S.D. was 3rd, Joe McCarthy of Broomfield, Co. was next with Jesse Baker of Grants, N.M. 5th. The fast time was set by Carney with a 12.745 sec. lap for an average of 93.213 mph around this 1/3rd mile track. One accident eliminated a car for the night. J.C. Powell of Albq. rolled his 8x after the checker in a B main. His crew was working on the car after the races and should have him ready for tomorrow night. Powell was unhurt. Tomorrow night (tonight) should see about 36 cars as we gain one and lose about 3 as Hodges, Ziehl, and Verville are headed to Tucson. Ricky Hood, former Floyd Reynolds Memorial winner, was back in the the Joe Herrera 45x and finished 6th. Results are unofficial until approved by the ASCS. The IMCA stock cars, sport modifieds and modifieds ran this evening. The top five in the stock cars were: First time winner, Michael Higgins, Traci Jennings 2nd, Allen Bradley 3rd, Frankie Hendershot 4th and Lee Moss 5th. Higgins passed Jennings in turn 4 on the final lap to win his first IMCA feature. The top five in the Sport Modifieds were: Zach Rouse, Zach Hamilton 2nd, Jeff Jennings 3rd, Ronnie Mangum 4th and Ryan Henley 5th. In the IMCA Modifieds a big crash on lap one involving five cars eliminated two strong contenders. Kevin Brown and Robert Reed were out for the night with some heavy damage. The top five were Regan Tafoya winning with Brandon Carley 2nd (started last), Danny Bradford 3rd, JJ Harpole in a new car 4th and Kevin Fadis 5th. The rest of the results can be found on SpeednetDirect.com. The 2nd night of the Floyd Reynolds Memorial will kick off at 7pm Saturday. I'll see you there!!
