NMMRA...Why Not the Wing?

I was on the NMMRA website and going through all the pictures. I noticed no wings. How come, after all the wing is the show. That is what the fans want to see. Flash and dash! Wouldn't the sponsors want that. You know, their name where people can see it. I like the wing too; it separates the sprints the mods by a wide margin. Why not the wing?

Put starters on em and then you have a show,lol,and i can't read the numbers on either one,must be a sprint car thing???
I think it's great that the NMMRA has kept their rules the same all these years and has a schedule at various tracks,it seems to have kept their division alive and strong!

Don I'm not going to even try and answer that question. But hats off to you it is a great question and has been discusses countless hours in All sprint car areas not only with the NMMRA.
Some fans want to see the speed and show the wing cars present other want to see the driver wheeling the more sideways slide you have in the wingless version. Both ways are great fun to drive and I will gladly do either. My preference though would be with the wing the cars a lot faster you have better control behind the wheel you don't have accidents as often and when you do go bottoms up you generally have a little cushion for the first bang.

I guess the WOO doesn't have any good drivers and doesn't put on any great shows and doesn't draw any spectators. I hear ya about the driver skill in the non-wing but you have to wonder if the wing would put more fans in the stands.

first off sprint cars have external starters, lol
WOO puts on a great show and so does USAC, NMMRA has always been traditional sprint cars and it works for them, so no need to change. Would drivers in this area race with wings? sure most would. as for fans the last time NMMRA ran at Sandia the place was packed and hopefully it will be again this year. As for me I just want to race either way.

Sounds good racing is where it's at. What's the difference in setup of the car, non-wing to wing?

winged cars ride higher and have more stagger and different shock valving, narrower front axle, and rear tires are moved in closer, thats the short version. lol

i agree that the wing cars can put on a great show but i wish that you could go to an outlaw show and not have to wear an oxygen mask and goggles to see through the dust. on the other hand it seems that this is getting to be the norm no matter what kind of cars are on the track.

Thanks Jerry, your brief description says a lot. These cars fascinate me with the speed and power. I feel they are the pinnacle of dirt speedway racing. I look forward to watching them this season.
