My kids and some friends and I went to the opening Dirt Track Race on Sat and loved it! I commend the Management and Staff of NAPA Speedway on an overall successful afternoon of racing. My sons are now more excited than ever to buy a car - so I acquiesce - I will get them a race car - now just a matter of which class to enter. They have found several cars for sale - the decision will be theirs. But any suggestions would be welcome. I do appreciate all the in-put I received from my last post about my concerns about all the 'fighting' in the pits. I'd like you to know I solved the issue - I have enrolled them in MMA! Now a PS: RE: MHUGHES & NAPADUDE - REALLY?? Your diatribe was very discouraging! I brought my friends from out of town - who had never been to a 'race' before and they thought it was fabulous!! They were adult business professionals who happened to see nothing but potential at this venue. Sure they had to pee in a port-a-pottie, and the hamburgers were cold and the wind blew dust - but they knew they were in our 'Enchanted New Mexico' and they still LOVED IT!!........... Jaclyn A. Good to hear

Jaclyn, do your kids and yourself a favor and start them out in the cruiser or hornet class, if racing is something your kids want to progress at, it maybe best to start them in a rear-wheel drive car. I say this only so they can learn on what every higher class car runs, you won't find any front wheel drive cars outside the hornet or cruiser divisions so really no reason to learn in one. Unfortunately the "street stock"(formally Hobby) is not a good beginner platform. Personally I think they will just get discouraged starting at that level, too many experienced drivers running to really make it where a total rookie could run without being leaned on or moved. That's a lot of un-needed stress that will take away from the fun. The streets are fast, and to run up front is a big investment, I am not saying it can’t be done for a rookie to run with the front runners in the streets, I am just saying the odds slim. Personally I would find a descent running rear wheel drive car, V-6 or V-8, Chevys seem to be a good choice since parts are everywhere including at the track, and try the cruiser’s at least while one is driving the other could be riding, they could take turns. Best class to start in, but that’s just my opinion.

JaclynB, I apologize for coming off as a Debbie Downer, but I stand behind the fact that the track conditions and safety are not up to par at the dirt track. This stems from my urge to side with the majority of the drivers and I guarantee you if I had a car I would keep it parked on the trailer rather than risk killing it for no reason. I too can see the unlimited potential that this venue has, and I will stand by patiently until it gets there, but for now I feel obliged to speak out against things that are getting in the way of reaching that goal. At the same time, it is very encouraging to hear that your friends had a blast because winning over newcomers is critical for the longevity of the dirt track and Napa Speedway in general.

So glad to hear you and your friends/family had a great time! Ignore the negativity, there are several drivers who realize the only reason we have a place to race is because of people like yourselves and we appreciate you more than you know. If you find yourselves in the pits and want to climb in a "beginner" car your more than welcome to climb all over the #1 Factory-4/Hornet I'll also have the #69 street stock out there occasionally and the window is always open on that one too!
