Last night was my first time to the Las Cruces dirt track, I watched a Track run a smooth program of racing, it was like clock work, the Checkered flag flew, the cars finished the Cool-down lap and they went off and the next field came on, all 4 classes ran as if every position was worth Mega bucks, door to door with zero fear. the only 2 minor negatives: (#1) someone needs to tell the Track announcer he has a Super speaker system and could have called the races from across the room, my ears are still ringing from the sound of his voice and the Fireworks music, the Mods were loud, the speakers were louder. (#2) What was the purpose of the MVT Games and Holly Jones, can't you hear yourself, did you really need to yell into the Mic of that Blasting speaker system? So I learned 2 things about Southern New Mexico Speedway, Bring your Dust goggles for the later races and bring ear protection but not from the cars but the Speaker system and it's users.

Remember Don, the show was put on by MVT and for the employees and you. At least we have a nice speaker system and yes the kid gets excited and probably should turn it down. The reason the track got dusty was because of the hour and a half long break. Next time we will probably skip the games. Let me know next time anyone up there does anything worth even talking about much less complaining about... The worst part of the night for me was that the mods sucked so badly with so many yellows... the last three times we ran A mods at both track including Friday night ineP we went 30 laps without a yellow.Maybe they got too excited from the fireworks.. But it was a great night... Sorry it didn't meet your expectations... BTW, when I say up there I don't mean Aztec.. They are doing some really great things to promote dirt track racing up there.

Royal, My thanks to the MVT people for sponsoring the event however 4 classes and a Fireworks show was all that was advertised, not an impromptu intermission Olympics. I don't have a problem with Holly being in charge of the event and I apologize for singling her out as a cause of hearing loss however your Audio Tech. didn't need to crank-up the Amplified Monster on top of the announcer's tower for the Racing, Games or the Fireworks show, there were young children in the stands near us and the look's of discomfort they suffered from was not fun to watch. Royal, I work in the Aviation Industry and the decibels coming out of those speakers last night are still making my Left ear ring (We sat near turn 4) as if I was standing within 100 feet of a running Learjet. As far as Dust, it comes with the territory, the track was loaded early and mother nature added a few drops, the racing was the finest I have seen and competes up there with Aztec. I do have one last question for you: Why a 7:45 start time, couldn't the show been started at the same time most tracks start 6:30? Next time I visit and a swear I will, me and whoever are with me will have Eye & Hearing protection on hand. Do your Fans a favor and have Ear plugs available to people when they can't hear the racing over the Announcers!

Don't listen to Don, apparently he has fallen off his rocker a time or two.... Myself and Mychel went down and raced with you guys last night and holy crap you guys put on one heck of a show... Thanks for opening your pits and gate to us that don't have a race track like yours, or promoter like YOU.. We will be back to race with you guys this year and as for Don, you should just stay home...

Royal, your site says all shows are 12.00 per person, I simply asked if there was an increase in the price to cover the Fireworks show so I could prepare to bring more than enough money and not be suprized by an increased fee, was that wrong?

Steven, I look at it this way, businesses need input both negative and positive to improve and attract new race fans, Southern New Mexico Speedway is a successful Business and should value the insight of 1 fan not afraid of ridicule, sometimes what I say is not well thought out and then I Apologize and somethings just flat-out need to be said if any progress is to be made, I'm tired of the softies out here afraid of rocking the boat and willing to over-look problems to keep what they currently have in fear of any negative word of mouth. Southern New Mexico Speedway ran a darn near perfect, well executed show till the Games portion began, they have a functional Leader board so an Announcer yelling over the top of the racing was WAY OVER-BOARD. The Fireworks show had all the sound it needed and did not need to compete with the Amplified Super Speakers of any patriotic song they could dig-up at Full Volume. To All of you that think I am not Patriotic, Don't pull that Non-American BS on me, I'm just as Patriotic as anyone of you but the Blaring Music levels made the Fireworks not enjoyable till the final explosion.

Thanks for the positives. I may be a little (lot) sensitive about all this but man we really worked hard to put all this together. Bottom line is there are a bunch of us all over the state that love racing and want it to flourish. WE get enough negative from the people that don't get it or don't like racing. We need to stick together. Thanks again and Don I did say we would turn down the volume...lol..

Royal, I've never been in a race car and may never do it, but I have been a Loyal Dirt Only race fan since the the late 60's. I have also seen businesses fail because they feared asking for suggestions from their clients to create growth, In my opinion and it appears only me that's willing to say it, do away with the Centralized Speaker system and mount out door speakers on the Safety fence aimed up to the fans like was used at Hollywood Hills, it this going to cost money, yes indeed it will but will be the final piece for a totally enjoyable race night for years to come and may save some hearing for the younger race fans.

I would like to thank all the folks that came down from Alb to race and or enjoy the show. we have a lot of people who worked like crazy to make this the best American Celebration we ever had, in spite of what Don thinks... The races were great and ran off really fast. All heat races were done and the first two mains before 9:30. then we had the games and then the fireworks.. Afterwords we ran the last two mains which included all 29 mods that showed up. I didn't want to run a B because I thought it would be more fun for all to be in the main since it was such a good night. Probably my fault that it took so long because of that , but we are not afraid to try things.. We also showed off our newest MPG tricks for our trucks. Surprised Don didn't cry about that. He probably forgot. I got it for you man.. 3500 people in the stands and I would say 3490 of them were totally satisfied with the show..

Surprized I didn't cry about the truck, personally I think those trucks are the Coolest Riggs I've ever seen and I admire taking risks to save MPG money, Sir, bringing that truck out onto the front straight away was very, very cool, if there was anything to say Negative about that you can bet your Shorts I would have done so Sir!

That's a boy Royal, give them heck! Knowing what you go through to run a 1st class facility like you do, don't let the whiners from ABQ have any effect. There are many good racers and fans from ABQ but they won't have dirt racing there much longer with the way so many others bash. Tenski is doing a good job up here and we are fortunate to have this track.

That's right Mike, Don't rock the boat, don't try to point out anything that could make it better for future race fans, Go ahead and watch your children go through pre-mature hearing loss and need the use of Hearing aids just because you chose to turn a Blind eye. Oh and 1 more thing Mike, Race tracks like SMS likes out of town money so if we do loose NAPA Speedway, which direction is going to get our hard earned dollars, the track Fan's that welcomes us or the track Fan's that calls us Whiner's?

All the times i have been to Cruces for the races. It has always been a good show. Royal and the gang bust there A$$ from week to week to make sure the track, concessions etc is ready for the racers and customers. I have to been to weekly shows and BIG SHOWS. The shows are run right and on a very timely manner. Royal dont stop doing what your doing. Just keep the good and quality racing going.

I too have been down from Albuq for many shows that Royal puts on. I have enjoyed all the shows, even some of the cold ones the last couple of years. Great races and great food. As soon as I am up and able to attend them again; I will and until then, I will look forward to the chance. Keep up the good job Royal.

I agree that the shows down south are some of the best around and i dont see any thing that needs changing and just fyi i told the girls at the concesion stand that the girls at Aztec said their green chilli cheese burgers where better and man did i get a great burger, I'm going to try that at Aztec this weekend and see if it works again! lol

Ok we will agree that the volume was too loud. It has a switch. Usually when I notice it I tell them to turn it down. The kid is new and is doing a really good job. He probably doesn't even know where the switch is. They had it loud for the music for the fireworks. I did notice how loud he was when he interviewed us on the front straight after the race.. Too late then. Thanks for coming down.

Yeah it's tough to get it right. We will try though and most of you know that we will do what we say.We really have a badass sound system that came from Skagit Speedway in Washington when we took over the track. It has the ability to put the sound out there and you can play music and it also sounds good. It also has the ability to be left too loud and ruin the lives of some...lol..

OH well, like he says he has a right to express his opinion. I would offer up to him and anyone else to come down and run a couple of shows and really see how it is rather than just armchair q/b... Lots of really nice comments and emails about this weekends show. I realize now he thinks he is trying to help so i won't be mean to him anymore.
It's kind of like if you go out to eat and you get bad service do you get on websites and blast it too the world or do you go to the manager at that moment and mention it so they can quietly fix it. I think Don had a great time but instead of looking me or Sarah up and saying hey , turn it down. he elects to be the cure all on public sites... At least he and we all have something in common. Race junkies with different points of view but luv racin...

If all I had to do was as you say "Look you or someone named Sarah Up" and asked for the volume to be turned down, would 1 paying fan (Me) been listened to? I think I would have about as much power as asking for the Water truck to come out because there was too much dust in the air, I could be wrong, you may have had to do this before in the past but I really don't see it being that easy to get the Sound turned down!

Maybe you (Don), should watch dirt racing from the comfort of your couch... ARM CHAIR QUARTER BACKS are good at making calls from the TV.. Just saying it might be more comfortable too call the shots without dust in your eyes, loud speakers, (you can control the volume on your tv) you can eat and go to the restroom whenever you like (to change your diaper)!
