Take lots of notes on each child as to what their clothes look like,fit and if they compliment the child and not overpower them.
Same for h/m and modeling.
Watch their stage projection and eye contact.
Look for their personality even in the older kids.
After doing this for 4 or 5 pageants you should be able to start judging small pageants.
When you do and no parents fuss at you and they do listen to your comments and understand what
you are explaing then you will be more than likely asked back or your name will be passed on to other directors as a good judge.
It sometimes takes months but could be shorter.
Always be honest and never let friends or foe intefer with your decisions.
And if a director trys to give you hints as to who is beautiful and who always wins and you feel she/he is asking you to pick a certain child then they are not an honest director and I for one would not want to judge for them and suggest you do the same.
Good luck and watch as many as you can before attempting to judge.
