As a national judge, you should give your undivided attention to that contestant when they are on stage. Yes, I do have to glance down every once in a while to write comments (can't wait to the last x or you run out of time and the next contestant is coming up). I DO NOT carry on a conversation with ANYONE sitting beside me. I may ask a question, i.e. What number was she? , etc. but I don't talk about the contestant and limit ANY talking except when I have to. I don't need to know what someone sitting beside me thinks, I have a mind of my own. I judged a national one time and they had all 4 of us at a separate little round table...liked that b/c then those that do want to talk can't. (I hate judge with someone who is always trying to talk to me....I just smile and keep watching the contestant). Hope you don't have to experience this again, but I hate to say it probably won't be the last time.
