Mark-Edward has been involved in the Miss America program, serving in many capacities, for over 20 years. His experiences are many including founding and serving as the Executive Director for a Miss North Carolina preliminary.
While attending Campbell University he was the driving force behind the creation of the Miss Campbell University Pageant. Under his tutelage, two former Miss Campbell University’s later went on to become Miss North Carolina preliminary title holders, with one young lady placing as 2nd runner-up.
After graduation, Mark-Edward was approached by the Miss North Carolina Pageant Association and was asked to become the Executive Director of a new preliminary located in southeastern Wake County. He accepted the honorable invitation and established the Miss Eastern Piedmont Pageant in 1991. This program was an outstanding success and the first Miss Eastern Piedmont went on to place in the top ten at 1992 Miss North Carolina pageant. This was a historical accomplishment as his title holder was the first one to make the top 10 in a preliminary’s first year of existence.
Mark-Edward has served as a pageant judge in over 50 pageants in North and South Carolina as well as Texas and New Mexico. He has experience judging contestants in all age groups and has great insight into what attributes make a great title-holder.
In addition to pageantry, Mark has been a high school history teacher since 1989. Over this twenty year period he has taught in numerous locations in North Carolina as well as teaching in El Paso, Texas, Jackson, Tennessee and Shanghai, China. He has continued his educational endeavors and recently graduated with his Master of Arts in Education for Union University. His hobbies included Presidential history and trivia as well as commercial aviation.
