Men always want sizzle. Even after 35 years. They are just afraid to ask for it! lol! I know of what I speak because I am now dating all those men that were married for 30 years and are now trying to live out their deepest darkest fantasies that they held in while they were married. 
He probably loves you heavy because it makes him feel safe. He has to know you are unhappy about it so he should want to support you just as he would in any other area of you life that you are wanting to improve. There has to be a reason he sabotages you and I'd bet my last dollar it is to keep you all to himself.
I am all for you doing this for yourself. My suggestion was just to keep him from rocking the boat this time around...and keep the chicken and ice cream out of the house.
This whole cougar thing is looking better and better to me. These 50+ year old men are just as horny and single track minded as they were when they were in their 20's, so if I have to put up with that I might as well get a younger one and have something nice to look at.
