That is a great accomplishment! My daughter Kim did a 5K a few months back and it was one of her proudest moments. She ran most of it too. She has a goal to run a full marathon some day.
I think it's great that you have set these goals for yourself. A real positive replacement for food related pursuits.
Your black toenail could be due to your shoe being too short for that foot, or your stride. If you are pushing forward as you step off you are probably hitting the end of the shoe. You may want to consult with a podiatrist before you attempt a marathon so he can evaluate your stride and help you correct it if necessary to avoid future injury.
