Your post brought back some memories for me. I inherited my mother's varicose veins (only me, none of my siblings!)--had my first one at age 12 and was very skinny at the time. I was always very self conscious about my legs. I listened to the urgings of friends and family to have my veins "stripped" about 25 years ago--so sorry I did. My left leg swelled incredibly larger than my right leg--didn't own shorts and quit swimming. All doctors just told me--"Too bad. You'll have to live with it." Finally a new doctor told me about a "vein center" and I checked it out. Fantastic! Both legs are now very close to the same size AND I no longer sport any road maps down my legs!
Even though my legs are too thin for the rest of me--they're fat now and I still don't show them in public. Some day? Maybe. I do wear cropped pants now, however.
