Their house is not fit to live in in my opinion, (in everyone's opinion actually). It's an old single wide mobile they are renting that has had some really badly done additions, no insulation and it's so drafty you can feel the wind blow inside. They have to rely on space heaters that do nothing and their pipes freeze up each winter. Plumbing is bad and the breakers are constantly flipping off. Honestly...I can't bear that my grandson is in this house. They are doing the best they can and want to move desperately, but financially they are stuck. We actually had to put their $500 power bill and $300 water bill on our credit card so things would not get shut off. She had to stop work 2 weeks before the baby came and her maternity disability didn't start until after the birth. The town they are living in is notorious for outrageous utilities. I wish I could help them get out of there, but we can't. They managed to get through last winter when it was just the 2 of them, but now with a newborn... it scares me.
Anyway, we stayed as long as we could trying to help and make what improvements we could, but we had to get home. It was so hard to say goodbye.
So now that I have unloaded my worries on you all, I also wanted to share that I lost 5 lbs while there. I brought my Cambridge with me and only ate a small meal now and then. So at least that was a positive!
