Posted by Pam Turner on 9/17/2004, 4:39 pm Personally, I reserve major surgery for major issues. You wouldn't cut off your foot for an ingrown toenail, would you? Of course not! Your foot is perfectly healthy, it is the nail that is the problem so you treat that. Why take a perfectly healthy digestive track and dissect it and create disease when your stomach and your intestines are not the problem? They are fine and doing their jobs and are NOT the cause of your obesity, even though they are under the abuse of a poor diet. No! The problem is in your thinking and in your entire bodies addiction to the chemicals that are in the processed foods we all eat in this country. Why destroy the function of the part of your body that is working well, when what needs to be altered is your thinking and body chemistry? It makes no sense. That is the kind of disjointed thinking that western medicine is so guilty of these days. Treat the symptom with cutting or pills, not the cause. The ultimate goal for any of us here should be to make peace with ourselves, our bodies, and food...not wage war against them! By supporting your body and allowing it to return to normal health we can accomplish what we need and want. To be slim, healthy, vital, and confident in ourselves and our place in the world. To no longer feel like a square peg in a world of round ones. You won't find the truth under a surgeons knife. You won't find it in a bottle of stimulants, You won't find it anywhere but in that moment when you finally get it...that you have complete and total control over your life and the choices you make. You are not a victim. You are not weak. You are not flawed. You are not bad. You are not hopeless. You can decide right now in this very minute to change your entire belief in who and what you are. Realize that under that excess fat tissue is the authentic you. The person that you truly are! Your weight is nothing more then an outward sign of what is in your heart that needs attention and healing. You would not abuse someone you love, and yet we have all been abusive of our own bodies. It is an aggressive, abusive act to purposefully over feed your body to the point of creating obesity and risking all the associated health consequences that go with it. Is it necessary to go to years of therapy to uncover whatever the catalyst was that caused the weight gain? I don't believe so. Therapy can be good, but it is not required for success. Like most things, all you have to do is start walking the walk and talking the talk. What I mean is..by beginning to see yourself as the person you know you are inside and living the life that person would live, you re-create your reality. Change your thinking and you can change your world. How does The Cambridge Diet fit in to all this? Well, it is not magic and it will not "cure" your obesity. There is nothing to cure. Obesity, despite what the pharmaceutical companies are now trying to sell to the public, is NOT a disease. A disease is a physical event that occurs in a body that is not under the control of the bodies owner. By calling it a disease the pharmaceutical companies force open the door to insurance compensation for even more harmful and unnecessary ineffective drugs that they can promote in commercials showing people romping on the beach! We are being scammed! Don't allow those who are only looking out for their own best interests convince you that you are powerless in your own life! If you are overweight, you got that way because you overate and underexercised. If you were unfortunate enough to have been put on drugs that have weight gain as a common side effect then you have the extra burden of overcoming that, but you are still in control and disease free. Don't believe for one second that you are less capable of managing your life then the next guy. Cambridge can be the tool to help you deal with the physical issues of obesity while you are free to deal with the emotional and conditional issues. By giving yourself a vacation from food decisions you can not only cleanse your body of the addictive chemicals that keep you hooked on the junk foods, but also free your mind from food obsessive thinking to rediscover who you really are. What your interests are. What excites you. What makes you unique! Gastric surgery can take all that from you. It robs you of your dignity and control. If you think that food occupies the majority of you time now, just talk to a post surgery patient and ask them what their days are like. Foul tasting protein supplements, limited measured water intake, vomiting, diarrhea, tiny bites of food that have to be chewed to liquid state and then hopefully swallowed and retained, bad tasting liquid vitamin supplements, food intolerances, dumping syndrome, muscle wasting...the list can go on and on. In contrast...what is a day with Cambridge like? Morning meal: a big bowel of Oats, enough for 3 people really, and a non caloric beverage of your choice. Lunch: a creamy shake in one of 8 flavors. For dinner: a bowl of potato, tomato, mushroom, or chicken soup and for a snack.. a yummy bar in one of 3 delicious flavors. Of course, this is just an example. You can use the products in any combination you wish. Every day you will see results. You will lose the weight just as fast as if you had had the surgery, but instead of weeks of recovery and possible long term health complications, you are getting stronger and healthier with every day of feeding your body everything it needs for optimal health. Your energy goes up and you sleep better then you ever have before. Your mood elevates and you marvel at how clear and vibrant you skin becomes! You begin to build muscle with enjoying exercise for the first time in your life. You notice changes each day and it is exciting and motivating as the bloom of good health returns to your body! Before you know it you reach your goal and it is a whole new life! Which should you choose? That is a personal decision. I only can encourage you to do your homework and read everything you can find on the negatives as well as the positives of weight loss surgery. Don't assume that anything is better then being fat. Most find out too late that that is not true. I have heard on more then one occasion a post surgery patient say they feel like they sold their souls to the devil. Search out and talk to those who have had complications or have gained their weight back. They can be hard to find as most are so ashamed at what they are told is their own failure. Whatever you decide, I wish you the best. Remember, there is nothing more important then your health, not even weight loss. You can have it all with Cambridge! Rapid weight loss, enjoyable products, improved health, and the satisfaction and pride of taking back your control! There is nothing better!! ................................................... I got this letter yesterday from someone who found me on the Internet. I was so moved by what this woman has endured that I asked her if she would mind if I shared it with you all here. She graciously gave me permission today. I had a gastric bypass June 11 2003, thinking it would be a piece of cake, and the perfect way to a perfect weight. I did a lot of research, but not the right stuff. When I had my surgery I had no pre-op counseling or tests other than a chest x ray and then show up at 4 am the next day for surgery. I don't remember the surgery at all. The first thing I remember is waking up to a group of Dr's standing around my bed telling me I had had a pulmonary embolism and that I was on a vent and then I was sedated again. I stayed on that vent 2 weeks. There are just no words to describe how awful the whole experience has been. All focus went to my lungs and I got no info on what to do after surgery. Right before my first follow up, my surgeon had to go on emergency medical leave, so my follow up care has been mostly primary care docs or nurse practioners who have never dealt with this. I have been hospitalized so many times because I have constant diarrhea. I can be walking down the street and not even realize I pooped my pants. It's so humiliating. Out of the last year of work, I have probably worked 3 months because I go in and work for a week and then get sick because I am unable to absorb any vitamins or minerals. It goes right past me. At night I pray to die because I have so much wrong with so many systems. Over the year I have learned that the whole answer to this miracle process (weight loss surgery) is exercise and eating right. I have not been able to exercise because I am so weak from my deficiencies so although I lost 80 pounds, now all I look like is jiggley jello. I don't know if the Cambridge diet would work for me now, but if you ever need an advocate to tell people the real truth about gastric bypass, just let me know. Next week I am going back to work again after being out for a month and only pray I can just get through my work week. I sold my health to the devil and now am paying for trying to take the easy way out. Thanks for listening--Ellen ------------------------------------------------- Thank you Ellen.

I have had a lot of people contact me today who are looking for information about an alternative to gastric bypass surgery. Of course, I am thrilled that they are looking! I don't believe that surgery is the answer except for a very few who's lives are in imminent danger without it. It is certainly not the way to avoid going on another diet to lose weight.
