Hi Everyone.... Posted by DIANE E on 4/27/2008, 4:44 pm 76.116.229.X Well, since the last time I posted, I have been struggling to SS, and still haven't done it. But, I have been using Cambridge for 2 out of 3 meals, and I have dropped a pound here and a pound there, up a pound, down two, up one....you know the cycle. The only way for me to do this is to SS. I have to start tomorrow. I spoke to a friend of mine that I hadn't spoken to in about 6 months, and she told me that a week and a half ago, she had the lap band surgery. Personally, I would never have surgery, but that's just my personal opinion. The reason I am mentioning her, is that she is not as heavy as me, I have about 70 pounds to lose and she has about 50 or 55,60 tops and she carries it well(better than me). So, I had asked her why she got the surgery and how it was approved since she was not that heavy. In the past 6 months since her and I had last spoke she developed diabetes and high cholestrol, high blood pressure, etc....this scared me. Thank God, my cholestrol and blood pressure are great and I do not have diabetes, but I know if I dont lose the weight, these illnesses are almost guranteed. So, I guess you can say she scared me straight. I have read stories and listened to all of you, but when it happens to someone you are close to, it seems to hit a lot closer to home. I used to always say, well, I may be overweight, but I'm healthy....but after hearing about my friend, I realize how quickly that could change....so as if I haven't had enough wake up calls and enough rock bottoms, this one hit me hard. So, I am not bringing any money to work tomorrow and I am leaving my bank card at home, so my only choice for lunch while at work will be Cambridge!! Breakfast and Dinner have been easy for me, it's the lunch meal where my SS'ing gets screwed up. So, I will keep you guys posted...remember my computer at home has died I have a computer at work, but I don't work at a desk, and there is one computer and four people on my unit share it...my new goal, is to try to at least get to it once a day to post, but if I don't...I'm not hiding...just computer challenged...lol. I can't wait to get a new one in June(it's a birthday gift from my Mom and Uncle) OK, have a great night guys. Diane  Post a Response

If you do want to add a meal it HAS to be very structured and planned in your day and no more then 300 to 400 calories for a woman. It is super easy to exceed the amount of calories it takes to maintain your weight so if you want to get this over with I say just do it and get it done.  Post a Response

I don't sole source, I add a meal (chicken and salad) and I'm doing great this way. I fall into the same category as your friend in that I have developed health problems ... I'm having heart surgery next Tuesday. But I am sticking to my plan and focusing on my goal... which is to lose 50 pounds... 10 pounds at a time. Believe me, if I can do this, anyone can do this. I have ventricular tachcardia with several focal points originating from the right ventricle but my doc suspects at least one may be shooting from the left ventricle. I do not have heart disease, no high cholesterol or diabetes... just high blood pressure that does not respond well to medication. In other words, no known cause for the arrhythmia. All I can tell you is that I don't like it and the meds I take make me sick. I get off of them on Wednesday because I have to go 5 days without them so that everything is at its worse before the surgery and I am not looking forward to that experience. My carotids swell to the point that I cannot swallow and I have to lay down with an ice pack on my throat to feel better. But I am looking forward to getting this done so that I can exercise and get around without feeling so bad. Thanks for asking... I've been very nervous about it.  Post a Response

I have been on medication ever since. I take flecainide ...generic for Tambocor I have had great results with this medication. I wish you all the best with your upcoming surgery.  Post a Response

What started all of this was when I was put on verapamil and it made my condition worse. I have a sodium channel block not a calcium channel and it made things worse. The flecainide was wonderful at first because I was in so much pain (chest pain and black outs and the swollen throat making me feel as though I were choking) but for the last month, the medicine has started to not work as well and I am having dizzy spells and chest discomfort again. I did not want the ablation because I had been told that it might not be successful, but my cardiologist said that my condition will only get worse. I started with palpitations about a year ago that went into PVCs that would not stop.... I would have 30,000+ in one holter monitor episode. It was terrible. So the med was a godsend until it started to not work so well. I'm hoping mine works because I have been told that it is very painful. Sorry yours didn't work. How do you keep your energy up while on the med and does it affect your vision... I can barely drive!!  Post a Response

I was given verapamil at first and it didn't work at all. Where do you live??? I'm wondering who your Dr. is.???  Post a Response

He seems to be very good since he travels all over the world giving seminars on the subject. He is supposed to be tops in research for electrical problems with the heart. AS for verapamil, I was put on Tarka 4, 240 for my BP and then when I couldn't get my BP low enough they added 125mg of verapamil to the Tarka... Tarka already had 240mg of verapamil in it. So I was taking way too much verapamil. I have a problem with calcium channel blockers and it sent me into full blown PVCs. I was like that from Thanksgiving through January 10. Miserable. As they got worse, I could not function daily. My cardiologist went into a panic because I was going into bigeminy pvcs and at a very high risk for sudden death so he sent me to Dr. Bailey. I have been seeing him since the end of February taking the flecainide and doing well until recently. I could continue as I am, but he said eventually the medicine will cease to work as well, which I have already noticed with a few breakthrough episodes. So I am doing the ablation.  Post a Response
