Summer...he was titled 'Sugar Daddy'...then within 36 hours - the sneak peek was gone.

he re-emerged a couple weeks ago as Palm Beach Ken...but I guess the damage had been done...then it was written up in USAToday last week with the controversy starting. I doubt that Mattel has that much pull where they can delegate what/when/where a story regarding their dolls (controversial or otherwise) goes in a paper like USA Today! lol

Below is a link to a an article that totally disses the idea of the dolls and uses sarcasm in the description (e.g.Today Sugar Daddy Ken - whats next - Octo Barbie or Barbie and Ken as Jon and Kate Gosselin?) and second...the post was linked on the BC Bulletin board this afternoon...

Mattel is going to lay low on this one - I doubt they are proud of their decision...especially since most if not ALL of their male designers that generate many of their top collector brands/lines are in fact gay and they have basically sold out to the masses of bible-thumpers/moral majorities on this one - that basically is saying "We were wrong to design such a doll"..."we're sorry and we'll remove it from our product line."
I would be ashamed if I worked for 'M' right now.
Very ashamed.

IF they indeed contrived such a 'HOAX' they run the risk of it backfiring with the collecting community. I for one am not purchasing ANY of the Silkstones for next year...I was going to only boycott the Palm Beach line - but I will not buy any of the collector lines next year.
Especially at their recently inflated price points!
If I purchase any dolls next year- they will be entirely Integrity and tonner.
