you will not have to worry about having software conflicts between your camera and a new OP system...I recently updated to a new laptop which of course came with Visa and have no problems with either my older Nikon Coolpix 990 or my new Kodak because I simply remove the cards, pop them in my card reader and my computer reads them like any other external disk/drive. (card reader cost me $9.99 from walmart and just plugs in using a USB contection no software required) If you have been using the software that came with your camera to edit the pix, there are some free downloadable alternatives you can use...If you use Photoshop (or something similar) you will be amazed at how much easier and quicker it is to import the images in to be worked on. OH and added bonus of a card reader is you extend your camera battery life emmensly.
