Robert works for Mattel, Mattel doesn't work for Robert. BOTH company & designer dropped the ball . I liked the looks of the first Sugar Daddy Ken (HATED the name). The second Sugar Daddy Ken looked like he had a playline head, so that made him a pass. Then word got out on the internet & I KNEW he would be gone. The simple fact is that playline constitutes the bulk of Mattel's profits. The adult collector line is a drop in the bucket. Mattel will ALWAYS be known as a company that makes children's toys & they will. The name said sleazy real estate agent to me, the outfit said tacky Florida (no offense to those who live in Florida). I simply wanted a more mature Ken & would have redressed him. I am not enthused about the Palm Beach line as a whole, maybe the real life dolls will be better than the protoype pictures. Sometimes I want dolls who dont reflect mid-American values. I loved the original Silkstones in their lingerie, however , complaining none collecter made them change the dolls to frumpy sleep wear. Ken was cool and very different. The name was a little over the top but, they could have easily called him something else or made him only available through the Barbie Collectors Club. I think its weird that Integrity has had two Transgendered dolls (one with ummmm.... a VA Jay Jay) and no one seems to bat an eye lash. But when people call Ken gay, he gets dropped. I'm more upset that they changed Caftan's skin color. Outside of the doll collecting world, do that many people even know about Integrity? When I told them that he was the senior designer at Integrity Toys, they were amazed. EVERYONE knows who Barbie is & the perception of MOST people is that Mattel makes children's toys. It might not be fair, but it is what it is. I was!! I am so disappointed in Mattel. I mean if the name caused problems, then they could easily have changed it. And whose brilliant idea was it to call him a "sugar daddy"? It's seems like the name is more taboo than the doll. Members were disappointed when Stunning in the Spotlight was going to be called "Stealing the Spotlight", so it they kept it "stunning". What a crock. OH and to remove the threads on the forum??
