Personally I loved it but knew some people would have a problem with the name.(figured mattel would just change it) It didn't even occur to me they would have a problem with him being gay. I haven't actually read any of the nasty comments, knowing I would only get frustrated with people's ignorance. It's no different than the lingere incindent a few years back. People hear about it & put their 2 cents in, never even knew it existed before then & forget it when the next so-called taboo subject is revealed. I personally believe it's just Mattel trying to generate some buzz for their product. Not a company known for courting negative reactions by releasing obviously gay oriented male dolls. (Earring Magic Ken was an unintentional exception.) I'm not surprised that they pulled the plug on this cutting-edge, risk-taking doll. A little disappointed, but not surprised. Oh, and for the record, I probably wouldn't have bought him. However, I love the look of a tan, white blonde Silkstone Ken and hope they manage to keep the doll in the line for this year, but perhaps butched up and redressed under a different name--maybe a plaid shirt and overalls and "Lumberjack Ken" will satisfy the masses, maintain Ken's heterosexual virility, and still please those bear-loving, Barbie-collecting gays!
