briefly we won the toss (thank goodness as it was a bit warm out there) & were bowled out for 183 in the 53rd over. individual highlights were a 50 from lal & a 41 from myself. arvind chipped in with a useful 23 & there was a brief flurry of runs in the closing stages from tim orr & anthony campbell. however to be critical we did not make the required 175 for max batting points inside 50 overs (we fell 5 runs short).
the general feeling was that we had not scored enough but you have to hand it to shcc. they bowled tightly & fielded well.
the early wicket did not come until shcc had about 30-40 on the board. by then the umpiring had started to frustrate us (certainly from the end coxy was bowling from).
the 2nd wicket did not fall until the score was past 100. by that point lal & turned to the spin twins of wylie & kumar. arv it was who forced a thick edge from their obdurate opener (caught at deepish slip by campbell).
their no 3 soon followed for 70 odd being run out in bizarre fashion/ if he'd run his bat in he would've made it easy but for some reason he jumped in the air as tim orr's throw was hitting the stumps. arvind was to pick up another wicket before the winning runs were made.
all in all a bit of a disappointment....!
