As much as I love Ramps (he has been imperious for Surrey over the last 4 years) and despite him probably being the most talented batsman on the circuit, this just smacks of desperation...
Having said that I don't think the selectors will even consider him... Why call up Jonathan Trott for the last Test if he isn't next in line...? That would be illogical and lacking continuity and would leave the selectors facing some very tough questions if it all went tits up.
Something must be done about the batting though... We definitely can't afford another insipid display like Headingley. Although I do worry slightly, if, as we're led to believe, Bopara's days at 3 are numbered then whoever replaces him will surely be under even more pressure and in a key Test too.
Assuming Fred is passed fit to play (which I pray to God he is! Those scriptwriters in the sky could well be busy) my team would be:
1. Strauss *
2. Cook
3. Key
4. Trott/Bopara
5. Collingwood
6. Prior +
7. Flintoff
8. Broad
9. Swann
10. Anderson
11. Onions
I have to agree with Bob Willis on Sky... The formula of selecting 3 openers in the top 3 has served England well in the past...
