Hey John. Well the stock motor should be a 389. That is all that was available in 66. To verify, give me the 2 character (letter) code of the front of the block (passenger side). Give me the date code on the block as well. This will be near the back pad where the distributor hole is located. (the drivers side of the distrib). It should be a letter and some numbers. For example I105 would be I=9th month or Sept. 10 would be the 10th day of the month, 5 would be the year of the block 1965. Hope this helps some, Kev
