Hey Barry. I do not know what the tensil strength of the other aftermarket block it. You would be best served to contact them regarding their block. When you recieve your MR-1 block, all you should have to do is clean the block before you being assembeling (like you would any block). The MR-1 accepts all pontiac parts. There are also no pan rail issues with the MR-1 block. Let me know if you have any other questions on the MR-1. Hope this helped some, Kev
