CAR SHOW ETIQUETTE, as it were.....
Posted by kat on November 3, 2008, 1:27 pm
Over the years we've spoken WITH and have discussed many "shoulds and woulds and coulds" with many, many participants and hosts.
"Why don't you..." or "Maybe you should..." or "Tell them..." subjects come up often. Chief amongst these suggestions or thoughts or comments are (from our judges mostly) "ask people to turn in their dash cards if they have to leave early, that keeps us from hunting around for their cars". Very true, and it speeds up award presentation too.
(1) PLEASE don't converse with the judge **while** he/she is judging your vehicle. If the judge has a question, please just answer it and let him/her finish judging. AFTER judging is complete, please feel free to ask questions. The judges don't mind a bit, they love talking cars.
(2) REMEMBER also, if you have legitimate questions, comments or concerns about your score or placing in awards, come up to the trailer IMMEDIATELY after awards. We can address your questions then, the judge who scored your car can go over your score sheet if you like. You will NOT be considered a "poor sport" by asking questions, this is how we can solve issues on the spot, rather than waiting.
(3) A favorite gripe amongst hosts AND classifying judges AND registration personnel is why people who are coming into the show move cones and come in the wrong way. We lay out an entry course which is concerned mainly with SAFETY for participants and spectators alike. Cones are there for a reason. Also when one comes in the wrong way and skips classification, they're just going to have to go back and pay and get classified anyway, until one is classified we can't register you in the book WHICH IS DONE BY CLASSIFICATION NUMBER. The very lame excuse of "I couldn't find the way in,I saw the cars and just drove
in" doesn't fly. It's thoughtless and potentially unsafe to the above named parties. So.... PLEASE:
(4) And when we hand out a packet of fliers at a show, please don't come right back up to the trailer because we've "mis-classed you" if you are going by what you are reading on a flier we just handed you . These fliers are for UPCOMING shows, not the one you are at at the time! Oh yes, actually READING the fliers we distribute let's you know what's going on so that you don't say, "I didn't know that". Knowledge is power.
(5) Turn in your dash card (NOT dash plaque, but the card with name and number on it) if you have to leave early.
DON'T move cones, it is inefficient and could be unsafe too.
PAY ATTENTION to the fliers you've been handed at a show... they are for UPCOMING shows.
Thanks,
Kat & Larry
