WOW!!! I have went through all the messages on the board over dysgraphia. My son fits right in. When my son started prek he knew his letters, but by the time he started kindergarton he could not right his name, the sounds to the letters, let alone the letters. He passed Kindergarton because he could memmorize everything. We then changed school because the teacher kept saying he will get it in his own time. Then had the nerve to say on the Last Day, "You might want to get some extra help for him this summer." I went and had his IQ tested and many other test done. He had a very high IQ. A few signs of ADD or ADHD. I also went to a special eye doc. He had vision problem he needed vision theropy. His new 1st grade teacher and I talked at great lengths before school started to she went over many thing with him. Then asked how did he pass kindergarton. I also had him tested for dyslexia at a center. He showed all the signs of dyslexia. His teacher then tutored him 3 time a week after school and we worked at home. By the time he finished 1st grade he was reading at a 3rd grade level. He still has some suppresion with his eye. But now his 3rd grade teacher thinks he has dysgraphia and I am begining to believe that he does also. He will redo assignments 4 time and still it is not legible. He will not even be able to read it. I thought he just wasnt trying hard enough and that he was hurrying through it so he would not have homework. What do you do if your doc doesn't have any knowledge about dysgraphia? Also would a pshycologist that tests for dyslexia know what to look for? Also with a doc note is the school required to act on the problem and set up a 504? I really dont believe he could get into a LD program as well Im not sure if he needs that kind of help other than writing skills at this point. If I am not right please set me in the right direction. Sorry this was so long. thanks
