Posted by Kearson Hackbarth on 8/22/2006, 3:33 pm My mom got a letter in the mail from the school board that pretty much flat out said that my brothers will never receive high school diplomas. They haven't even made it to high school yet!!! How on God's green earth can anyone say such a thing to a parent, let alone a council of people whose sole purpose is the educating of children? I'm sick of the school system. I have pulled my brothers out of school and will be teaching them myself. They say they want to go back for senior year, so I will make sure that they can. They are going to pass that exit exam and go on the be successful, functional people. And when they do, I'll take this whole thing to the school board and let them know how utterly they are failing today's youth. Schools are disabled, not the children in them. NOTE: Even as bad off as they are, my brothers were in the top 50% of their graduating middle school class. What does that say for the rest of those poor children that got pushed ahead to high school? Leave No Child Behind? More like, Shove 'Em All Along The Path Until They Give Up And Become Burdens On Society. The world needs to wake up.

I am so tired of the term "learning disability". I have two brothers, twins, who have been labelled as LD since the 4th grade, and I have discovered something. They are not disabled. They are different. They are just wired differently for learning. The school system is the one that is disabled. My brothers have been shoved to the wayside for years because they do not fit in the learning norm. They have been labelled as stupid or troublemakers because they need a different learning environment, and I'm not going to take it anymore. Human beings evolve and change over time. It is a fact. Every year, more and more children are labelled as LD. Well, what happens when the LD kids outnumber the "regular" kids? The whole idea of learning disabilities is just ludicrous. It is something the school community has created so that they don't have to change. School systems, and parents, need to wake up to the fact that evolution happens. Schools need to adapt and adopt new learning techniques that can help the masses instead of sectioning off kids who learn differently.
