You shold use Aspen chips. It's what I use for my rat, and it seems to be doing well for him. If you are not able to use Aspen Chips, DO NOT use pine or cedar. They may smell good, but they have toxins in them, that can give your rats respiratory infections, and can lead to death! Use paper pellets instead, but I would highly recommend Aspen chips.
