well in my rat book it says that it is very rare for the male rat to eat the babies but the female and male will eat babies that are either dead or ill. It says they shouldn't kill healthy babies and that a buck will make a good father and nest with the babies whilst the female is resting but if you don't want any more babies then seperate them as the male can get her pregnant again straight after giving birth.
