definately get 2!! rats are very socialble animals and prefer to be in pairs!!!
I personally prefer males!!
males, when they get a little bit older are more likely to be happy wandering around with you on your shoulder or sitting on your lap being stroked whereas females rarely sit still for longer than 2 seconds (except when eating)
ours rarely mark and if they do it's so small that it's babrely noticeable!!!
