I'd guess it has a lot to do with the barriers of entry. You have to do a lot of up front work to form a team that you didn't really have to do 10 years ago. When I started playing 15 years ago I could gather some buddies on about Wednesday, get signed up for a tournament, each bring $15 and pay Saturday morning. We'd show up wearing a mix and match of old t shirts and shorts and nobody would bat an eye. If we were lucky enough to place in the top two we'd get some shirts and 50-100 bucks. Tournament directors got tired of getting burned on entry fees to no shows and players all became prima donnas needing fancy uniforms and big prize packages. |
: Iím new to the sport. I did a little research
: and found thereís a lot less teams playing
: now than a decade ago. By a large margin.
: Anyone know why?
